AT Manual
What a great time to review the AT manual and Scherer's chapter on AT and the MPT factors when we were sent home from school because of a snowstorm. Reviewing these readings just reinforces how important it is to have a team together and willing to work with the child using the new assistive technology. If there isn't a person trained in the use of the technology and the interest in supporting the child it will never be successful, nor will it be used by the student or the teacher involved.

I agree with you that there needs to be trained 'techies' in order to make the technology work for the benefit of the student. Teachers can't be expected to know everything about technology but at least be open to ideas. A hard copy of this manual should be posted where everyone has access.
ReplyDeleteToo true Paula!
ReplyDeleteOne of the reasons FHCS is so atractive for me as a teacher is the team that we have and the potential for AT and Technology Education to be embraced and explored by our staff.
It makes it so much easier for the students, teachers, and support staff to get past the frustrating drawbacks that come with every new piece of software and every new piece of hardware if trained and experienced colleges are seconds down the hall.
You're a rockstar buddy and the kids and staff @ FHCS are lucky to have you!
It is a team effort...from assessment to effective implementation and...continued follow up. Excellent!
